Intro to Jots and Thoughts

This is just a short explanation of what this blog is all about and where I'm coming from.

Who am I?

I am currently a college student studying engineering. I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka, a "Mormon"). My religious beliefs are very important to me and feature prominently in what I think about and what I write about. Although not all of my blog posts are about religious topics, much of my worldview is flavored by my religious beliefs. I would love to discuss those beliefs with anyone who is interested, so just let me know.

I understand that not everyone shares my religious or philosophical beliefs. I try to be respectful of others' viewpoints and beliefs and welcome a variety of perspectives. I hope we can all share ideas kindly and respectfully.

What is Jots and Thoughts?

I often have long, rambling ideas about life, the universe, and everything in between, and sometimes I want to share those with other people. I hesitated making a blog for a long time because I wasn't sure if anyone else would find anything I have to say relevant. Then I decided that even if only a few people identify with my thoughts on life and whatnot, I might as well make them available to people. Probably nothing I say will be particularly groundbreaking (I did consider titling the blog "Random Ramblings," which may be more accurate), but maybe something I say will mean something to someone at some point. And I have ideas for free, so I guess that would make it worth it.

Quotes, etc.

I will probably use lots of quotes from many different sources. I will do my best to be as accurate as I can about citing where I got the quote (and try to verify ownership as much as I can). I do quote the Bible on a regular basis, and I also use the Book of Mormon quite a bit. For those unfamiliar with the Book of Mormon, it is a record about the ancient inhabitants of the American continents, the promises they made with God, and their relationship with Christ and each other. You can read the full text here and learn more about the background of the Book of Mormon here.
